Overview
Documenting the Opera VR: Virtual Learning and Research Hub project in London, a two-day international initiative exploring how virtual reality is transforming music education, performance, and creative learning environments. The project brought together international partners, educators, researchers, and students to explore new intersections between technology and the performing arts.
Day 1
The first day focused on immersive, hands-on engagement with virtual reality in an educational setting. Students and teachers participated in live demonstrations, interactive workshops, and guided experiences designed to introduce VR as a tool for creative exploration in music and theatre.
The sessions encouraged experimentation and collaboration, with over 300 pupils engaging directly with VR-based opera experiences. The atmosphere was energetic and forward-thinking, offering a practical insight into how emerging technologies can enhance learning and artistic expression.
Day 2
The second day expanded into a hybrid conference environment, bringing together educators, academics, families, and project partners. Through a series of presentations, discussions, and live demonstrations, participants explored the broader implications of VR in the arts - from music and opera to theatre and interdisciplinary performance.
Attendees were able to experience VR applications firsthand while also engaging in conversations around pedagogy, accessibility, and the future of creative education. The day combined formal academic exchange with interactive, hands-on exploration.
My Role
Across both days, I was responsible for full photo coverage and video production. My work focused on documenting the complete narrative of the event - from structured presentations and performances to spontaneous interactions, audience engagement, and behind-the-scenes moments.
This included capturing the scale of participation, the detail of VR experiences, and the human element of curiosity, collaboration, and discovery. The visual documentation aims to reflect not only the events themselves but also the atmosphere and impact of the project.
Acknowledgement
Grateful to all organising institutions and partners for the opportunity and trust to document such an innovative and forward-looking project, and to be part of an initiative shaping the future of music and creative education.
